Hand-finished buttonholes
Each buttonhole is cut, then sewn in silk twist over a gimp cord: about 180 stitches and 25 minutes of one tailor's time. The working cuffs on a made-to-measure jacket take four more.

Every ORSOLAN jacket is drafted from your 28 measurements, basted, fitted on you and finished by one tailor in our Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Milan atelier. Six to eight weeks, three fittings, one pattern kept for life.
The house, since 1987
A tailoring house that would rather be quiet than loud.
ORSOLAN began as a two-table workroom on Lorong Kain Sutera in Kuala Lumpur, cutting suits for lawyers and wedding parties. The rule then is the rule now: one tailor makes your garment from start to finish, and signs the inside pocket when it is done.
Today the house has ateliers in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Milan, a ready-to-wear line of tailoring, evening wear and outerwear, and 41 tailors. We still cut every made-to-measure pattern by hand, on brown card, and keep it for as long as you are a client.

The lines

Ready-to-wear is cut from the same blocks as our made-to-measure patterns, so a jacket bought off the rail can be re-fitted by the same tailor later. Prices below are for ready-to-wear; made-to-measure starts at RM 6,800.
Tailoring
From RM 4,900
Half-canvas suits in Italian and English worsteds, cut close at the chest and easy through the leg. Two- and three-piece, sizes 44 to 58, with 5 cm of inlay for later alterations.

Evening

Dinner jackets with silk barathea facings, column dresses in silk crepe and wool-mohair trousers that hold a crease through a long night. Pressed and hung to order.

Overcoats in double-faced cashmere, sewn edge to edge with no lining, so the coat is warm and still weighs under 1.4 kg. Made for Milan winters and air-conditioned Singapore alike.

Made to measure
Five meetings, six to eight weeks.
Made-to-measure starts from one of our house blocks and is re-drafted to your body on brown card. From RM 6,800 for a two-piece suit.
Consultation
Week 1, 60 minutes
We talk about where you will wear it, how you like a jacket to feel and what already hangs in your wardrobe. You try on our try-on garments in three shoulder shapes so we can see your posture, not guess it.
28-point measurement
Week 1, 45 minutes
Your tailor takes 28 measurements, from neck and across-back to the pitch of each arm and the drop of each shoulder, and notes stance and seat. Everything is written on your card by hand.
Cloth selection
Week 1, as long as you like
Choose from more than 400 bunches in the atelier, lining, buttons in horn or corozo, and details such as pick-stitching, ticket pocket and working cuffs. Your quote is fixed before we cut.
First basted fitting
Week 3 to 4
The jacket is loosely tacked together in white thread over its canvas, with no finished edges. We chalk, pin and re-cut on you. This is where the fit is really made.
Final fitting and delivery
Week 6 to 8
A forward fitting with the sleeves set, then a final one to check the finished garment. It is pressed, hung on a shaped cedar hanger and ready to wear out of the atelier.
The cloth library
Four hundred bunches. Eight we reach for first.
Our cloth comes from family mills in Biella, Yorkshire and Donegal. Weight is given in grams per metre: under 270 g wears cool in Kuala Lumpur, over 320 g is for Milan in November. Ask to see any of these in the bunch before your fitting.

Craft, up close
The work you feel before you see it.
Floating canvas
Three layers of horsehair, wool and camel-hair canvas are hand-padded to the chest and left free of glue. The front shapes to you over the years, instead of bubbling at the first dry-clean.
Pick-stitching
A row of tiny stitches, eleven to the inch, set 1.5 mm in from the lapel and pocket edges. It holds the edge flat and catches the light a little. We only do it by hand.

Cloth above 300 g/m or from the reserve bunches adds RM 800 to RM 3,200. Rush orders in four weeks are possible for made-to-measure at RM 1,200, subject to the atelier's diary.

Your pattern is shared between all three ateliers, so you can be measured in Kuala Lumpur and fitted in Milan. Every visit is by appointment.

Lifetime care
We keep your pattern. And your jacket.
Pressing
Two hand presses a year on every made-to-measure and bespoke garment, free for life. Drop it at any atelier and collect it in three days.
Repairs
Seams, buttons, linings and moth repairs are free on garments we made. Invisible mending on the cloth itself is quoted after we see it.
Re-fitting
Bodies change. Every garment is cut with inlay so we can take in or let out up to 4 cm. Free in the first year, then from RM 220.

Write to client servicesWhat is the difference between made to measure and bespoke?
Made to measure starts from one of our house patterns and changes it to your 28 measurements, with three fittings. Bespoke is a new pattern drafted only for you, from nothing, with more hand work and usually four fittings. For most suits, made to measure is enough. For evening wear with a close fit, we suggest bespoke.
How long does it take, and can you rush it?
Made to measure takes six to eight weeks and bespoke evening ten to twelve. For a fixed date such as a wedding, book at least twelve weeks ahead. A four-week rush is sometimes possible for made to measure at RM 1,200.
Do I have to come to every fitting at the same atelier?
No. Your pattern and fitting notes are shared between Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Milan, so you can be measured in one city and fitted in another. We ask for 48 hours' notice so the garment can travel.
What do I pay, and when?
Your quote is fixed at cloth selection. A 50 % deposit starts the cutting and the balance is paid at the final fitting. We accept card, bank transfer and FPX. The deposit is not refundable once the cloth is cut.
What if it does not fit at the end?
We keep fitting until it does, at no cost. The price covers as many fittings as the garment needs. If we cannot make it right, we refund you in full.
Can you make women's tailoring and gowns?
Yes. About 40 % of our made-to-measure orders are women's suits and coats, and bespoke evening covers gowns, column dresses and evening coats as well as dinner suits.
Do you make shirts?
We make made-to-measure shirts only as part of a suit or wedding order, from RM 690 each, in cotton poplin, oxford or linen. The minimum is two.
